Reflection: Real World Applications Formula 1 - Section 2: Put it into Action


When I selected the two data collection activities for this lesson I chose them because I felt they would allow my students to generate good data fairly easily.  I gave two options simply to give my students a choice, but I found out during the lesson that I was also providing options that had relevance I hadn't considered.  Every team with boys, except one, chose to do the marble activity while the girls teams preferred drawing rectangles 2 to 1.  I'm not sure why this dichotomy occurred but it has made me more aware of the kinds of problems I create or find for my students, with an eye toward what might be most engaging for them.
