Reflection: Student Ownership Making Connections to College and Career with Math - Section 4: The Elevator Speech

Students really do want to hear about your life outside of school, as much as you want to hear about their lives. Sharing your lives with each other is a great way to not only connect math to the real world but to really get to know your students.

I love talking about college. For my students, I might be the only one to have this conversation.

They will be fascinated about your life and then really want to tell you about their dreams.

I find it sometimes hard for students to think about careers that they have never had so be ready. I always revert back to books, movies and tv. Somewhere between the three they have experienced their dream career! I also try to get family involved. If all else fails, ask other students...they have all the answers.
