Reflection: Connection to Prior Knowledge Whole Number Multiplication & Division Recall - Section 5: Work It Out

It is really important to start every unit by connecting to prior knowledge. Math Blast helps but making the connection needs to be intentional. It will make your (and their) lives easier if we make a point to "make meaning" of what is being taught by connecting to what they know and can do. It is not enough to say "remember learning this in 4th grade", because they will agree to anything.

Don't be afraid to even pull out lessons from their 4th grade books. They will recognize the work and instantly tell you that they "did this already",  to which I respond, "Good, then everyone will get 100% of it right."
