Reflection: High Quality Task Everything In Its Place: Place Value - Section 4: Elevator Speech

I can't emphasize enough the importance of a firm grasp on Place Value. Everything that we do depends on getting it right. I really want to make the point that if your students are not 'getting it' make sure you spend more time on it. I do a lot of check ins and bring small groups to the carpet to check for understanding. I make sure that those struggling learners get extra support, these are the students that need it the most.

Look for fun and inventive ways to make place value fun. A lot of old games centered on Place Value or you can easily rewrite the rules to include Place Value. Cards are a great way to make up games as well as dice.

Students like games but make sure this is a purpose or they are just games. There is a big difference between playing games and learning from games!
