## Reflection: Checks for Understanding Monster Mash Ten Frames - Section 3: Independent Practice

As shown in the student video, I think it is important to question my students. It was fairly easy for each student to count the ten frames and glue the according number down. I like to ask questions that go beyond the assignment in order to check for a deeper level of understanding. It is important for my students to be critical thinkers that can verbalize their knowledge. In this particular content area, I am trying to get my students to automatically recognize that a ten frame holds 10 without counting the ten frame. In addition, I want them to automatically recognize half of a ten frame is five without counting.
