## Reflection: Joy What Are Numbers? - Practicing 4 & 5 - Section 2: Presentation of Lesson

My students loved this lesson!  They really enjoyed listening to the story yesterday and doing the whole group activity with the monkeys, but getting to use the monkeys at their tables today really got them excited.  I have a few students who are frequently off task, and I struggle to get them really engaged.  This lesson did it!  I never thought Barrel of Monkeys could be such a hit.  Some of the students did get a bit upset at the end when it was time to clean up because they wanted to play with the monkeys.  I ended up adding "Playing Barrel of Monkeys" to our end of the week rewards.  I think that bringing interesting objects into a math lesson can be the difference between have most students engaged and having all students engaged.
