Reflection: Checks for Understanding Perp Lines are Perfect - Section 4: Activity/Homework

In order to determine if students understood this lesson, I asked them to complete questions #2 and #3 in the activity/homework.  I found that it was easy to check and see if they had the correct equation for the perpendicular bisector and also easy to quicky see that they had completed the correct construction for a perpendicular bisector.  We did not have enough time in class to complete any more practice questions but these were enough to really reinforce the key topics for this lesson.  Here's an example of student work:  Perp Lines are Perfect Student Work

For students who had their constructions or perpendicular bisector wrong, I worked with them quickly during the exit ticket to correct their errors.  If this isn't enough time, you can also review these in the activity/homework assignment.

Further, I like to give students a sticker, which you can see displayed in the attached student work.  My students LOVE stickers and it helps me to know whose work I checked and did not check.

Perp Lines are Perfect

Unit 2: Line-sanity!
Lesson 7 of 9

Objective: SWBAT find the perpendicular bisector of a line segment and construct perpendicular bisectors using a compass and straight-edge.

Big Idea: Algebra and geometry intersect, please pardon the pun, in this lesson on perpendicular bisectors.
