Reflection: Grappling with Complexity Tornadoes and Extreme Storms - Section 1: Introduction

 

Extreme storms are difficult for students in my area to understand. Often times, the students in my classes have very limited life experience. They may have heard of these types of storms but they have little to experiences to connect too.

Since most of my students have not experienced these types of storms, I show them a video with live footage. Some might think that it can be too extreme but the Bill Nye video does not show anything that might be too scary.

I feel it is important to show things in real life with photos and real footage as often as possible. It will give our students a better sense of things that they may never experience themselves and opportunity to ask questions about them.
