Reflection: Standards Alignment Multiplying a 3-digit number by a 1-digit number - Section 4: Closure

In order to align the lesson with Common Core, I decided to teach multiplying a 3-digit number by a 1-digit number with place value blocks.  The standards says that the students are to multiply using strategies based on place value.

I have tried several strategies in order to give the students an option on how they want to multiply.  For example, the students use the commutative property, property of one, and property of zero to help them multiply.  The students learned to use the expanded algorithm by breaking the problem into smaller problems.  I always tell the students that they can work the problems any way that they want to work them.  It is my job to show them various ways so that they can use what is easier for them.
