Reflection: Real World Applications CORNERSTONE - Water Quality: Testing Samples - Section 1: Why This Lesson?

It is really important that students feel that their work matters and that it is not just for the purpose of chemistry class.  In this investigation, student samples of water from the community are tested and the results discussed.  Students get to use chemistry in order to evaluate water sources right where they live and really understand practical uses of the science.  Whenever possible, I think that bringing in real uses of chemistry yields a much higher buy-in from students.
