BAZINGA! Rates Review Game

Objective: SWBAT show understanding of various rates of change situations.
To revisit the previous day's concept of deriving y = mx + b from the slope formula, I provide students a list of the steps and asked them to reorder them (without looking back at their journals, if possible). This gives students one more exposure to the concept which increases the odds that it will be consolidated into long term memory.
BAZINGA! Review Game
After Warm Up, I introduce today's review game: BAZINGA! This game is played in small groups with the following procedures:
1. Divide class into small groups of four or five.
2. Let each group choose a group name, which you list. (I keep score on the white board next to the SmartBoard)
3. Each team begins the game with 25 points.
4. Decide the playing order of the groups. (I choose a name stick at random. That person’s group goes first. The rest of the groups go in order clockwise.)
5. The first group selects a number from the BAZINGA! game board. Touching that number activates a corresponding question. The team has 2 minutes to answer the question. Other teams my say “steal” if they think they have the correct answer. If the playing team answers the question correctly, they get to choose a red BAZINGA card to reveal. If they do not have the correct answer, another team may attempt to answer the question correctly and choose the BAZINGA card. If no team answers correctly, it is the next team’s turn.
6. Most red BAZINGA cards reveal an action of some kind that teams must carry out. (You can easily modify these actions if you prefer.) Hidden among the red cards, however, are two BAZINGA! logos (see Example Question.pdf). When one is revealed, that team loses all their points they have accumulated at that point in the game. All groups continue to select questions, even if they lose all their points.
7. Once all 12 questions have been answered, the team with the most points wins!
