Reflection: Continuous Assessment Summary Strategy: SWBST - Section 3: Independent Practice


As an extension, you could have students create their own summaries of The Pain and the Great One using the SWBST prompts. I would suggest having them summarize one section of the book (from the sister’s point of view - or - from the brother’s point of view) rather than the entire text. This might be a little easier for them to complete. You could have all of the girls summarize Part One and the boys summarize Part Two or assign certain parts to students so that the entire book is covered. This would help you further assess students’ ability to complete the task independently.
