Reflection: Little Librarians: teaching students to nurture books the same way you do - Section 3: Closing

Getting kids in the habit of keeping things neat and organized takes time, practice, and lots of modeling.  Our library is definitely a work in progress after this first lesson but this is something I will remind kids of daily for the first couple weeks of school. I will also post our anchor chart in the classroom and revisit it often.  I used to assume that students would know how books should be taken care of and put away but I learned very quickly that these expectations need to be taught and retaught often. It is worth spending a day specifically on this topic so students understand it is a priority and a responsibility for our entire class.
