## Reflection: Student Ownership Fractions Word Problems Review - Section 2: Group Work, Day 1

Inevitably when I assign group work, there are one or two students who hide behind their group.  They wait for their group members to discuss a strategies and don't offer their input.  They don't begin their work until their group members have started.  More often than not, these students are my lower level students.  My observations have been that they since they don't feel comfortable in math, they don't feel comfortable speaking out and working with their group.

Over time, I know who these students are.  If students are grouped heterogeneously, I will assign a partner to the students who I know struggle with group participation.  If students are grouped homogeneously, then I am able to focus on these students.
