Reflection: Intervention and Extension SUPPLEMENT: Linear Programming Application Day 2 of 2 - Section 2: Investigation

DIFFERENTIATION:

Some students will need an outline of the steps they follow to complete a linear programming problem (see Linear Programming Graphic Organizer). They can also refer back to an earlier lessonwhere they solved the Cats and Dogs Problem.

An extension problem where one of the constraints is changed from the original problem is an appropriate addition to this activity.  Appropriate extension activities might be:

  • What if the school had to let in twice the amount of out of district students as Boston students?
  • How would this change the graph and your results?

SUPPLEMENT: Linear Programming Application Day 2 of 2

Unit 3: Systems of Equations and Inequalities
Lesson 14 of 17

Objective: SWBAT write inequalities using constraints, graph inequalities and identify a feasible region, write a profit function, and find maximum profit.

Big Idea: This lesson gives students the opportunity to synthesize what they have learned before they begin to create their own linear programming problems.
