Reflection: Checks for Understanding Materials Engineers Part 1 - Section 5: Measurable Test


I did not collect the lab booklets to review until the lab was complete.

Next time I will collect the lab booklets after the first day to review the teams' hypothesizes because it allows me to check for students' understanding of the properties they will be testing.

For example some teams wrote that a particular material was flexible because it is easy to bend, but did not include that the material would return to its original shape.

Then when we meet for the next lab, or as a revision exercise in writers' workshop, teams could revise their hypothesis. I could work with them in a small group setting.

Since there are only 6 teams, there are just 6 lab booklets to review. This is doable in our busy day!
