Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Enzymes and pH Lab - Section 4: Independent Practice

I like this lab because it is a hands-on opportunity for students to actually see how pH affects enzymes.  This type of activity has great impact on students' comprehension  and recall because they get to see the reaction up close.  They get to see an "optimal" reaction and understand that an optimal pH yields the greatest reaction.

Students enjoy this lab because it allows them to perform actions that show tangible results. I also find that students enjoy this lab because it is a multi-step, complex procedure that challenges them and stimulates their interest.

Students learn best by doing and this lab presents an excellent opportunity for students to gain a conceptual understanding of the relationship between pH level and enzyme performance.
