Reflection: Checks for Understanding The Respiratory System - Section 2: Explain

While I frequently use technology in my classes, I like to provide my students with low tech review options and checks for understanding as well. One of these checks for understanding is bulletin board reviews.

In this lesson, the bulletin board is quick and easy to make. I use an overhead projector to draw a poster-sized diagram of the respiratory system and I make diagram labels out of notecards. The notecards can be used during a whole class check for understanding or they can be used by small groups or individuals during independent work time. Students can also use the bulletin board during study hall. Simply placing a labeled diagram, turned backwards, beside the bulletin board provides students with an opportunity to practice identifying the various structures.
