Reflection: Adjustments to Practice After Reading Strategy Notes for Bookmark - Section 1: Review Pre and During Reading Strategies

 

Previously, I taught During Reading strategies and used a similar warm up of review of the previous Before Reading Strategies. The effort to have the student give feedback and take part in the discussion from this previous warm up was a bit grueling. It took numerous prompting attempts.

While this lesson uses the same approach, I decided to try something a little different. In this lesson, I had student refer back to their bookmark and notes for the answers. I told the class that I was looking for evidence that their response was correct before we discussed the strategy.

This simple change made all the difference in the world. Students were engaged and had more input during the review.

Objective: SWBAT write strategies they can use after they have read a piece of text to help them with comprehension.

Big Idea: This is the final section of their student created strategy bookmark. It is a fun way to take notes and create a document that is a reference to them as they read.
