Reflection: Perseverance Cultural Universals - Section 5: Levels of Questioning/Interpretation: Map Drawing


This was a really interesting activity to observe. Students go REALLY frustrated with each other for not "listening", when in fact the person drawing wasn't being given very clear instructions.

The team who won figured out a system of communication where 2 or 3 students were reading through the book and 1 student was giving instructions to the 1 student who was drawing. The rest of the group would provide feedback to the person drawing and help to make corrections. Their maps weren't perfect, but they figured out great ways to communicate and to persevere in this difficult task.

The group that struggled the most had very few members involved in the process and it fell to 2 students to do all the work, which led to a slower process and a limited perspective of what the map was supposed to look like.
