Reflection: Checks for Understanding Screws - Section 2: Independent Practice

 

When doing the demonstration with the pencil, I wasn't sure how that was going to work out with the students.  For myself, I could see how this explains the screw and how there is an inclined plane on the rod, but I wasn't sure how students would see this.

To my surprise, this was quite the "a-ha" moment for students.  It seemed that it made our lesson on inclined planes become more solid and then they were able to put the two concepts together. 

In the future, it would be great if I could use a material to do this activity that make the inclined plane more 3-Dimensional so that it pops more and gives students and even better understanding.
