Reflection: Complex Tasks Limaçons and Roses - Day 1 of 2 - Section 3: Extend

 

I love the matching activity in this lesson because it allows students to make many conclusions about polar graphs completely on their own with being "taught" any rules or characteristics of these new graphs. By having the graphs already completed, students notice the unique characteristics of the limaçon or rose and connect it to the rectangular graph.

Another nice aspect of the matching activity is that students can physically move the cards around and see which ones go together. As they were working, students were easily reviewing and revising their work since they had something tangible to move.
