Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Bird Beaks, Not Just For Show - Section 4: Explore

We looked at different bird beaks online and in print, however, the experience of modeling how a bird uses its beak allowed my students to truly understand that all adaptations have a purpose. They experienced the difficulty of trying to "feed" on food that was not suited for the type of beak that they were using and that helped them take the concept to higher level.

Using models helps students reach a deeper understanding of the concept.
