Reflection: Grappling with Complexity Stem Cells Web Quest - Section 4: Connecting the Learning


In the closing of this lesson, I review with students the vocabulary for different types of stem cells by breaking down the words into parts.

I tell my students that if you learn the word parts, then science vocabulary is not that difficult, because you always have the tools you need to decode.

I just realized that I wrote the previous sentence in the same format I ask students to write a hypothesis - if... then... because.. :-)

Breaking down vocabulary into the word parts grows your vocabulary immensely. You have the power to decipher complex text because you can master the vocabulary.

Simple strategies like breaking down vocabulary gives your students the power to grapple with increasingly complex science.
