Reflection: Intrinsic Motivation Quadratic Equations, Day 1 of 2 - Section 2: Learning to Factor


With a lesson like this one, I find it's very important to let my students know that these problems are not merely "busy work".  Factoring quadratic equations is a skill, and like any other skill it takes practice to develop a feel for it and to increase efficiency.  With practice like this, my students are continually encouraged to learn from one another, to try out different strategies, and to keep track of their progress.

Unit 2: The Complex Number System

Objective: SWBAT write quadratic equations in standard, vertex, and factored forms. SWBAT graph quadratic equations efficiently. SWBAT evaluate and solve quadratic equations.

Big Idea: Knowledge of quadratic equations is an important prerequisite for studying complex numbers.
