Reflection: Accountability If You Give A Mouse A Cookie: Writing a Cause and Effect Book - Section 3: If You Give Them Time to Share

This project always takes my students forever.  This year is the first year that I've done rubric checks and check ins.  I have found it to be helpful in keeping students on track and focus to complete projects in a timely manner.

I decided to do rubric check ins because I needed a way to help my students take more ownership of their learning.  This is the first year in our building that we've used student data notebooks and that's been our focus- student accountability.

What I have found through the rubric checks and check ins is that I am doing less work keeping students on task and they are managing themselves- such an essential skill in adulthood!! These check ins are definitely something I will continue to do in all subject areas.  It may be a bit more work on the front end in planning check in sheets and such but in the long run, it is making my students more independent learners and that is the goal for all of us!!
