Reflection: Rigor Finding Average Rate of Change of Polynomial and Non-Polynomial Functions - Section 3: Exit Slip

 

Students have previously learned how to write Exponential Functions before this unit.  One way to make the Exit Slip more rigorous is to have the students write the function instead of providing it for them.  After students write the function, then students have to still find the average rate of change between the second and fifth year of the initial deposit.  Here is the alternate Exit Slip to provide more rigor and differentiation among students of different levels.

Students could also be required to provide a table and a graph to increase the level of difficulty of the problem.

Objective: SWBAT find average rate of a Polynomial and non-Polynomial Functions using tables, as well as a secant line intersecting a graph.

Big Idea: For students to realize that finding the average rate of change between points on a function is equivalent to finding the slope of the secant line.
