Reflection: ELL Students Going Mobile? - Section 1: Launch


As a follow up to my reflection in lesson 10 of this unit (Designing your own systems) I thought I may add this nice way of helping ELL students in the classroom. I actually got this from a Language Arts teacher at school, and thought it was a good idea in my math class. She created vocabulary banks in the classroom by way of charts that contained key words and phrases that ELL students refered to. Some of these, she posted around the room. I figured that these Vocabulary Banks could be very helpful in math when discussing or writing about math thinking. The words can also be accompanied by pictures or illustrations.

Objective: SWBAT use a system of linear equations drawn from real world data and best fit lines to make valid predictions.

Big Idea: Is the desktop computer going to disappear? Will laptops and pads take over? Students use a system of equations to make predictions.
