Reflection: Unit Exams Plaid Pete is Finding Earth's Place in the Universe Unit Assessment - Section 2: Assessment

I hate that sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach - the one where I have to write the score that signals that a student "Does Not Meet Standard" - yet again.  It is especially hard when you know it is one of those students that really tries their very best.  With the increased rigor of all of these new standards, I am seeing this more frequently.  In elementary school, we still have those students who show developmental lags.  That doesn't mean they won't get there - it just means they aren't there yet.

In this screencast, I compare the pre-assessment and the unit assessment of one such student.  It is so very important that we find areas of growth to celebrate for these students - lest they give up on themselves.  They need to hear that they have made progress, and that they will get there!
