Sometimes, just giving students a blank page on which to share their thoughts is the best designed lesson component. This was definitely true for this lesson on translations. I gave students a blank 8.5 x 11 inch paper and asked them to create bubble maps with the topic being...Translations.

Defining Translations

Unit 4: Defining Transformations
Lesson 2 of 7

Objective: SWBAT show that when a figure is translated, all segments connecting points on the preimage to their corresponding points on the image are congruent and have the same slope.

Big Idea: Putting the 'if and only if' in translation. In this lesson, students discover the defining characteristics of translations.
