Reflection: Lesson Planning Finding A Marble's Volume - Section 2: Engage

Implementing The 5e's

Engage. Explore. Explain. Extend. Evaluate.

I like this teaching and learning strategy. It brings diversity to my lesson planning and unit planning. Students learn and discover as they work through each phase of the model and this research-based strategy is effective when teaching inquiry. The 5e Instructional Model is a valuable strategy used with students to:

  • sequence the lesson
  • break the lesson into manageable chunks
  • help students learn from the previous experience and apply it to the next step in the model
  • develop scientific reasoning
