Reflection: Real World Applications Energy in Systems: Looking at Subsystems - Section 5: Explain

One of my educational philosophies is that classroom learning should focus on the world around us and our place in it.  In that regard this lesson has students focus on the systems that exist within larger systems. By focusing on these subsystems students start to see the intricacies that are around them every day. As a teacher you can build on this awareness and begin to discuss with students the component parts of smaller systems that exist within large global systems.

Energy in Systems: Looking at Subsystems

Unit 5: Energy: Where we get it and how we use it.
Lesson 6 of 13

Objective: SWBAT identify and describe energy transfers in subsystems of larger systems.

Big Idea: Students build on their understanding of forms and transfers of energy to study. identify and explain subsystems using Rube Goldberg cartoons.
