Reflection: Discourse and Questioning Telephones - Section 3: Explore


In order to have a meaningful and productive conversation at science circle, I find it best to "pre-interview" or check in with groups as they work.  The video (in the explore section) captures a group that clearly can explain how the phone works and why.  By noting this and asking them to share (once we get to circle), the conversation will be a clear and precise. This specificity allows those who are unclear to see another another group's thought on the concept and allow them to change or solidify their own thinking.

Unit 4: Sound and Light Waves

Objective: SWBAT use tools and materials to design and build a device that uses sound to communicate.

Big Idea: We are going a little old school in first grade today. Today we are "Bringing Back the Land Line!" Students will asked to build telephones using cups and string.
