Reflection: Journaling Volcanoes - Helpful or Harmful? Prove it! - Section 3: Explore

This was the first time my students have used the CER strategy.  I was a little apprehensive, since it seems that many people think that the reasoning section should be reserved for 3rd grade and up.  Even though that section was the more difficult for them to complete, I think it took their thinking to a higher level.  I also liked using this strategy since I think it gave the children a purposeful meaning behind their research.  I definitely plan on trying this strategy again.

However, I have also created an easier Claims-Evidence version that does not include the reasoning section.  This tackles the same strategies, but reserves the reasoning for a later grade.
