Reflection: Staircase of Complexity Miss Nelson Has a Field Day - Section 3: Independent Practice

I found my students struggling to remember the order to retell their stories without the Retelling Stick. They were often skipping around the book and retelling the details in any order they could think of. The retelling stick provides a visual for students to help them slow down, think about what they want to say, and retell the story in the correct order.I have made 5 more Retelling Sticks to have out during centers for my students to have as a visual reminder.

Also, a few of my students had a hard time writing. They spent most of their time thinking about what to write about. To help my students combat their writer's block I added a few popsicle sticks with story starters on them. This will provide them with a topic, and they can begin writing right away.
