Reflection: Shared Expectations Making Models of the Moon Phases - Section 3: Explore/Explain

I set up several expectations with this particular lesson because there were many components to it. Allowing students to make models and use them is a difficult task that requires a lot of planning and preparation. I found that my students just wanted to jump in and make the model without having a plan first. I had to make sure to go back and support them with the planning process.

The models turned out great and the students were really able to see how this model can be used to teach about the moon phases. It took a lot of time and effort, but in the end, their models turned out great and they're excited to share them with other classes.

Objective: SWBAT make a model demonstrating the phases of the Moon.

Big Idea: Making models is an important aspect to the NGSS and gives students a concrete and hands-on component to help them understand more abstract concepts.
