Reflection: Connection to Prior Knowledge Elevators and Newton's Second Law - Section 2: Elevator Predictions


This activity is great for students because everyone has been in an elevator so they can have some connection to this activity. Not only do the students have a common experience to reflect on but it is also something that they can make predictions about using their common experiences. Predictions are great for the students because it engages students in thinking differently than they normally do in class. I also like the fact that they can compare the predictions right away with the video to see if they were right or not. About half of my students were right for each prediction. I found it interesting that students wrote that they felt heavier or lighter in multiple places.
