Reflection: Continuous Assessment Preparing For A Socratic Seminar - Section 1: Writer's Mini Workshop: "Who Do You Love?" Paragraphs

The mini writer's workshop can be very helpful for future lesson planning around mechanical and grammatical activities.  The shared student paragraphs provide opportunities for informal assessments of what students know and what they do not know, not only from the writing samples that are workshopped, but by the participation of the whole class when asked about a correction that is made.

For example, I noticed a tendency throughout the shared paragraphs in all of my classes for run-on sentences, and a subsequent inability for my students to explain how and why a sentence is a run-on, as well as how to fix a run-on.  I likewise noted an overall unawareness of parallel structure. As a result, I will be finding ways to work in lessons on run-ons and on parallel structure in the future.
