## Reflection: Connection to Prior Knowledge Adding and Subtracting Decimals - Section 2: Reading Decimals

My students did need this quick review.  The common mistakes were forgetting zeros and confusing decimal place values.  For instance, a few students for number two wrote 8,253,28,000 or 8,253,280,000.  When I saw these mistakes I read the number out loud and usually they caught their mistake.  For a few students I needed to remind them that when we are reading whole numbers, we read the numbers regularly and then say the place value when we get to the comma.
