Reflection: Connection to Prior Knowledge Mendel's Smile - Section 2: Hook - A Happy Union: DNA and Genes

Many times students want to compartmentalize their learning by forgetting one topic after they have completed the unit test.  With the implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards, it is imperative for students to make the connection between disciplinary core ideas, the cross-cutting concepts, and the science/engineering practices.  The reinforcement of content and skills will reinforce students understandings and abilities in their science courses.  If all of the grade level teachers use the same terminology, students will become familiar with the cross-cutting concepts and science practices.  With this new set of performance standards to revolutionize our curriculum, students will begin to understand the inter-connectedness of the science curriculum!
