Reflection: Discourse and Questioning Magnets and Water - Section 3: Explore

 

I wanted to gain an understanding of the students views/predictions before testing.  I asked them to decide what they thought and asked them to vote in front of the class.  This also gave me the opportunity to see who would change their thinking based on other students' views.  IN this case, some students thought one thing but went with the thinking of (the perceived) smarter students in the class.

Objective: SWBAT communicate their ideas about magnetism and decide if air is necessary for magnets to work.

Big Idea: Splish Splash, the magnets taking a bath! Today your young scientist will work with a partner as the predict if a magnet can pick up steel nails under water.
