Reflection: Accountability Electron Orbital Diagrams - Section 5: Whole Class Discussion

I do not use peer grading all of the time, however, I have found it to be a useful tool for two main reasons.  One, peer grading as a class allows us to go over the answers together and allows me to correct any misconceptions as we grade.  Two, getting an entire class's worth of papers graded (my classes all have over 40 students!) quickly allows me to record grades later that day and get the graded work back in the hands of my students the following class period.

I am aware that peer grading can sometimes invite students to be less than honest when grading a friend's paper.  This is one reason why I only implement peer grading on low-stakes assignments.  This is also why I sometimes switch it up and direct students to trade papers with someone on the other side of the room or have them switch by passing papers back one (with the last paper going to the front).

Electron Orbital Diagrams

Unit 2: Electron Configuration & Bonding
Lesson 2 of 9

Objective: SWBAT complete electron orbital diagrams (using boxes and arrows) following Aufbau Principle, Hund's Rule, and the Pauli Exclusion Principle.

Big Idea: We can express different ground electron configurations using an orbital level diagram model.
