Reflection: Angry Bird Physics: Launching A Projectile Horizontally - Section 4: Visual on Horizontally Launched Projectile


During this lesson students come up with tips that they believe will help other students successfully address similar problems. Some of the tips students suggest are, "Include units at each step", "Make sure that you answer the question" and "Choose the right equation". The purpose of this assignment is to show students that step-by-step mathematical reasoning can help simplify challenging problems into more manageable parts.

This part of the lesson focuses on using annotations to make a solution more viable than the original problem may have appeared at first glance. The use of mathematical logic to simplify solutions and recognizing patterns within projectile motion data is important for several of the lessons within this unit. With this in mind I ask students to create solutions with tips so that our class builds a set of shared strategies for solving complex problems.

Unit 3: Projectile Motion
Lesson 6 of 16

Objective: Students will utilize their understanding of trigonometry and simulations to distinguish between the mathematical models for a projectile launched horizontally and a projectile launched at an angle.

Big Idea: A projectile’s motion is composed of two independent motions: a constant horizontal velocity and a vertical velocity undergoing constant acceleration.
