Reflection: Adjustments to Practice Goody Goody Gumdrop! Building Structures are Fun! - Section 4: Testing Our Gumdrop Structures


As the second group came up and started stacking books on their gumdrop structure, I noticed one of the boys placing the books on the towers in different positions.  He automatically knew that the books needed to be adjusted according to how it was leaning.  If needed, he would position the books slightly to one side or the other to counterbalance the stack.  He was doing it intuitively, not even realize he was doing it.  This gave me an opportunity to discuss this factor.  From that point forward, the children paid attention to how the books were stacked.  Most children chose to put one book on and then put the other book on facing the opposing direction.  It's always great learning when kids learn from each other!
