Reflection: Adjustments to Practice Rocky Shore Animal Research - Section 5: Day Three - Draft All About Book

 

As you can see from the student artifacts I did not use one page for each mini-question. Instead students divided the picture box into 3 sections and addressed each question on the  page vs one page for each question.

Next time I will keep it this way, but have the students write headings for each section, i.e. waves, tides and predators. You can see that some students tried to include headings off to the side, or by boxing them in. These were directions I overlooked, when students began to draft their work. That won't happen again!

This research to draft project would be a good lesson to do after lessons on non - fiction text elements in reading.

Next time I will scaffold the writing so that students are using the 'mini question' to start their section.

Objective: SWBAT create a 'All About Book' on a selected rocky shore animal by applying their research and synthesizing their learning from the previous rocky shore lesson.

Big Idea: Student refer to informational text and class notes to write an 'All About Book' on their chosen rocky shore animal.
