Reflection: Checks for Understanding Stairway to Learning! Moving Your Way to Understanding Metric Unit Conversions - Section 4: Formative Assessment

Checking for understanding needs to be meaningful, not a formality that is implemented at the end  to cover that required portion of a lesson.  Therefore, it is important to look back at your objectives and choose a question that assesses your students' ability to meet it.  You can also use formative assessments, such as exit tickets, to gauge students' comfortableness converting metric units.

In this exit ticket, I specifically ask students to rank their ability to convert.  Most kids are too embarrassed to admit that they don't understand.  This is a good time to give my students the opportunity to voice their concerns.
