Reflection: Checks for Understanding Air Masses and Fronts - Section 4: Explore

In the video in this section I use a strategy of asking focusing questions for the purpose of getting these students to dive deeper into their ideas and pull the graphs together to tell a story. There are many moving parts that have to be considered when explaining meteorological phenomena. Having students look at each part separately and then together as a system helps them making meaning of the complex play that is taking place. To help facilitate this thinking, ask your students focusing questions. In the clip the students notice patterns so I ask them to describe the patterns. In their response they talk about shapes. I ask them to identify and name them, pulling in vocabulary that we have been learning.
