Reflection: Grappling with Complexity Which Apple would you Buy? - Section 3: Explore - Day 1

 

It is really not developmentally appropriate to anticipate that students will completely master or maybe even understand this concept.  However, I believe it is important that students be exposed to it. Language and concepts of learning need to first be explored and played with in order to establish the background knowledge for later learning.  When the students finally will be formally taught the concept of variables, they will have background experience to connect the new learning to.  The trick is to make sure that you do not create any misconceptions that will need to be addressed by another teacher later on.
