Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Biodiversity of the Coral Reef - Section 2: Engage!

Using this particular graphic organizer is great for children at all levels.  It helps the children define the individual parts, in this case the animal classifications.  Then after the entire graphic organizer is filled out, it helps them conceptualize the concept as a whole.  I find the children love using it because they are able to visually see the information and understand the significance of each of the boxes in relation to the whole.

For the coral reefs, we were not able to fill out each of the boxes.  We could not find any information on birds insects or amphibians.  But I still chose to leave those categories on the chart since I wanted the graphic organizer to stay the same for each of the habitats we are going to study so we can easily compare them at the end.
