Reflection: Connection to Prior Knowledge Sound Waves - Part 1 Density - Section 3: Evaluate


Students were not able to make the connections about energy, waves, and sound that I had hoped for.  The main reason for this was that I simply ran out of time.   The following day, I led a brief discussion about this and helped student summarize why the pitch was lower.  Many students were able to make connections about the the amount of energy needed to pass through a more dense liquid.

Big Idea: In this lesson, students gain background knowledge about sounds waves and explore how density effects sounds by participating in a hands-on activity with a pencil and water.
